Do you want to have additional traffic to your website without doing any marketing? You can do it by encouraging your website visitors to share your website content. However, this is not an easy thing to do because people are lazy to share your content. What you need to do is to make the process easy for them. Here are some tips you can do to motivate your website visitors to share your website content:

1. Make it easy with visible social share button

Install social share button in your website and make it visible and inviting. It will make it easy for your visitors to share your website content. In fact, it will increase the chance for your content to be shared in social media platforms by your visitors. It is reasonable because if your website doesn’t have social sharing button, people will be too lazy to type your website URL just to share it to their social media friends.

2. Encourage visitors to share

It is important to remind your visitors to share your content. This is because most people will forget to share your content if you don’t mention it. Many successful bloggers do this method to encourage more people to share their content. And this method is often works. In fact, if you don’t remind your visitors to share your content, people will just leave your content after reading it.

3. Make it short and valuable

Social media users are in a rush every time. They want everything quick. At least, this should be acknowledged in your mind. Therefore, most people will not take the time to read your lengthy content in their social media platform. The only way to add more readers from social media platform is to make your content short and valuable. It means that you have to make your content worth reading so that your social media friends will at least take some time to read your content.

4. High quality content and catchy title

High quality content is the most important requirement to make your content worth sharing. Also, you should always write catchy titles so that your shared content will be read by the people in social media. Include a catchy title in your content so that people find your content interesting. In fact, the only content that will be shared by your website visitors is content with catchy title.

5. Give reward to those who share your content

This is probably the most effective way to motivate people to share your website content. By giving rewards to those who share your content, you will motivate people to do it. The rewards can be anything, depending on your website. If you are a blogger, you can offer your special report to them. If you have ecommerce website, you can enter them to drawings where they can win your prize. What you need to do is to make your reward interesting so that people will be motivated to share your content.

Those are some tips you can follow to encourage people to share your website content. If you apply those tips, you will be able to drive traffic from social media platforms even without any marketing effort on your part. Let your visitors do the marketing process.v

The title may be a bit misleading, reminding more of those infamous get rich quick scams, but once you get over the first impulse, you’ll find that this is a valuable resource.

Not necessarily aimed only at seasoned marketers at PRs, the book also helps small businesses and DIY fans make sense of the strategies needed to set-up, launch and run a successful social media campaign. The book gives concrete examples on how Fortune 500 companies are using social media, and reveals some of the classic mistakes many small businesses are making when launching a social media campaign. Knowing these mistakes is knowing how to avoid them as well.

Furthermore, the book reveals 50 powerful (and popular) social media platforms and how can they be used to get new customers. For business owners who need to know how to integrate a social media campaign into a traditional marketing campaign, How to Make Money with Social Media: An Insider’s Guide on Using New and Emerging Media to Grow Your Business is a life saver. With 59 specific steps needed to ensure that a social media campaign is a success revealed, there’s not much that could go wrong.

Last, but not least, the book comes recommended by Scott Monty and David Meerman Scott, both known for their social media proficiency. Remember, this book is addressed to businesses, and not to random people who want to “make money online.”

This guest post is contributed by Barbara Williams, who writes on Becoming a Computer Technician. If you like her work, have comments or want to hire her, email her at: barbara.williams07@gmail.com

You have to hand it to the Internet – it has singlehandedly destroyed (or is in the process of destroying) all forms of paper-based communication, the kind we refer to now as snail mail. And now, Twitter seems to have taken the place of fan mail, what with many celebrities taking to tweeting to boost not just their online profile, but also to gain some free publicity as well.

Ashton Kutcher, John Mayer (he of the Jennifer Aniston tell-all fame), Kirstie Alley, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Tyra Banks, Cameron Diaz, Kelly Osbourne, and many others have taken to Twitter like a duck to water, and now they have hundreds of thousands of followers. But if you’re hoping for a personal tweet from them, then you may just have to depend a great deal on luck because with all the followers they have, celebs just don’t have the time or the motivation to reply to every tweet they receive. In short, to them, it’s similar to fan mail which they do acknowledge subtly, but which often gets a standardized reply.

The question most people are asking however is this – although there are many celebs on Twitter, how many of them send out tweets on their own? Or do they have assistants to take care of their tweeting needs? If I had to take a wild guess, I would say that 90 percent of celebrities use Twitter as a PR tool rather than as a social network which connects them to the masses. They promote themselves and their movies, and in a new and unprecedented move, they’re sensationalizing their own lives. We can now read the kind of news we earlier used to find in gossip rags and tabloids, direct from the Twitter feeds of celebrities who are apparently ready to kiss and tell.

Image courtesy Lance Strate's Blog Time Passing, click on the image to see source.

This is similar to celebrities selling the exclusive rights to their wedding and baby pictures to tabloids rather than be confronted with grainy shots taken by hidden cameras. Their new policy seems to be – if anyone is going to gain anything by exploiting me, it might as well be me. So we now have Twitter adding to the popularity (or notoriety, depending on how you look at it) of the stars, and making them seem like “one of us”. It’s basically a form of publicity for them, one that they can adopt without resorting to stunts or gaining negative reviews and criticism. And the best part is that it can be outsourced to their PR people, and no one is ever going to know the difference – the cloak of anonymity that the web provides is just what our celebs need to hide under even as they supposedly tweet about private lives.

It is pointless to start writing about why the idea is S.T.U.P.I.D! I consider Big Brother a stupid show, but the fact is that it is still broadcast, which means that the publics like it. This is proof that stupid ideas make big money. This is also proof that instead of trying to learn something deep, profound and life enriching, people feel the need to “tweet.” So here it is, the intelligent response to the TV competition plans of Twitter.

I don’t remember which StumbleUpon friend sent me this link yesterday: Google ‘falling behind Twitter’ – maybe Chris Cree? Or was it Rob? My first reaction was to laugh: Google admits that it “has been losing out to Twitter in the race to meet web user’s demand for real-time information”(?!) I mean, come on Google, wasn’t Twitter a poor man’s email?

Not long ago I wrote at Everything PR about Google’s Foul PR Game. I noted there:

I am sure, as we speak, that Google actually considers buying Twitter and considers it carefully. Confirmed or not, rumors of a purchase are probably well founded. Discussing a possible collaboration in search is just smoke they throw in our eyes. Google cannot afford to lose Twitter, but on the other hand, they are probably not able to buy it, due to the latest “anti-trust” developments.

But after reading Google ‘falling behind Twitter’ it all became clear: Google is lower than a snake’s belly. They were always interested in Twitter. They said for so long that they are not afraid of it, that they do not consider it competition, etc, just to throw smoke in our eyes. True, they cannot buy, but who says that they didn’t already close a deal “under the table”

The secret love relationship between Twitter and Google will soon be confirmed. Sure Twitter wouldn’t sell to Facebook and Apple. Sure Twitter would say “we are not for sale” – after all, they already sold their soul to the devil (and we all know what happens to those who do that). Remember that you read it here first.

Twitter is nothing sort of complicated, although it is draining our time and energy. Twitter addictions are not rare now, some people spend long hours “broadcasting” their lives, watching what others do – a sense of strange voyeurism comes to mind, where perfect strangers watch you from the distance to make judgments about who you are, what you are, why you do the things you do…

Twitter is not groundbreaking technology. It’s hype and hype pushed to extreme. Twitter is also a fragmented world, a puzzle of thoughts, links, actions and people. For the trained marketer Twitter is also advertising, editorial content, a window to human nature and to what makes people take action.

Twitter never surprised me, its success was predictable: a pitiful name for a brand, but somehow “cute” and catchy (pitiful in an even worse sense than “Google” – another example of bad name gone great). People are now reduced to a flock of silly birds that are chirping at the same time, but never at unison. There is no harmony on Twitter: just scattered thoughts, sometimes revolving around the same topics, more often following the interest of the “tweep.”

Twitter is stupid, oh yes, but paradoxically it powers global intelligence. The brightest minds of our times joined the flock, and spend time here, trying to figure out what is the force that drives this chat room at times.

At the other side of the spectrum we have the Britney Spears and the Kutchers, the VIPs who use the network to pull some headlines in the magazines, because honestly, there is no such a thing of an “altruistic” use of a social network. Everyone is there for a purpose: marketers to market, VIPs to gain buzz, lonely people to feel less lonely.

So why are you on Twitter?

After calling it a “poor man’s email”, Google finally adopted Twitter by creating a “Google News” account and announcing it proudly on the Google News Blog. Could this be the beginning of something “deeper?”

Google News aggregates stories from over 25,000 news sources updated continuously. Starting today, we’re offering users an additional channel to follow the news by posting links to top stories as they become available on the new @googlenews Twitter account.

But the “news” is not news, because the first Google account on Twitter was reported February 26, when also the first “purchase” rumors emerged.

Google never confirmed the rumors, and Schmidt never viewed Twitter as a direct competitor, despite the obvious search advantages offered by Twitter over Google. One of these is the real time search capability, that already convinced many marketers that Twitter could be a Google killer.

Discussion about a collaboration in the search sector between the two are not news either, but as you know, there’s never smoke without fire (or was it the other way around?).

As I sipped my coffee this morning, as I usually do before actually starting to work, I first read my Twitter messages (which were not many), then I went straight to Google news – my main source of inspiration when writer’s block strikes. I think “writer’s block” is a bit too extreme to describe my actual state of mind. Let’s just say that I am not in the mood to write about SEO, public relations or body language. I was hoping the news would give me something meaningful to ponder upon, but the hype is more disturbing than ever.

Yesterday ReadWriteWeb reviewed a device that makes energy efficient homes “tweet” their energy consume. To be frank I don’t even understand how this is news and why the fuss about this “technological” wonder, but then again, I don’t understand why a plant should tweet “water me please” and why an unborn baby should use Twitter. I guess these are just some examples of what can be achieved with technology. But where’s the relevance and the value of these things to actually improve our lives, that’s something I really don’t see. But these are old news.

Today, as I said, browsing the news was painfully annoying. Every other second news title was Twitter related. It’s wonderful to see a company having so much success and being adopted so fast by so many people – unexpected I might say for a service that does nothing but letting people “chat” in a more organized and restricted way than traditional chat rooms. Twitter is the “hot” app of the moment, and it will probably die a silent death in a year or two, as soon as something cooler emerges. Take FriendFeed for example: it used to be so popular, for a very short while, when no one even bothered to talk about Twitter and microblogging fans were testing Jaiku and other Twitter-like platforms. Now FriendFeed and all its close relatives are operating in silence, because Oprah doesn’t join, because there is no Kutcher to follow.

Would Twitter be so successful without being supported by all these celebrities? It’s been pushed by marketers a lot since the beginning of the year, and now it’s being pushed even harder by people who, before Twitter, never even bothered to talk to the “little people.” But what amazes me is that these celebrities who praise Twitter so much are actually being there to promote themselves even more, and us, fools, believe that they are in a “dialog.”

Oprah follows ten people as I write this, but she is being followed by over 500000. And do you want to know what this icon is tweeting about? Herself, and her show, that’s what. She’s not on Twitter to talk to anyone (but Larry King, and Demi Moore, and Ashton Kutcher, and other such resonant names). She is on Twitter to bring more exposure to her show, and the brand Oprah.

And what about Kutcher? The “king” of Twitter… He follows 95 people and is being followed by over 1300000. I remember watching him live with Larry King and saying that the best thing about Twitter is that you choose who to answer – meaning that if you don’t feel like answering to one of your followers it’s all right.

The point is that these people don’t care about the Twitter community. They care about themselves and others who can push their careers, and they think it’s all right to be on Twitter and ignore questions from their public. You know? The public? Those people who actually pay to see these icons on TV and on the screen?

The good news for Twitter is that every time a celebrity like Oprah joins the network the traffic to Twitter.com boosts (and the whale sings, but this is another story). No wonder that one of the news titles today read Twitter Success Helped by Celebs. And the celebs are on Twitter to do good, you know. They are supporting altruistic causes like same sex marriage and curing the world from malaria. Aren’t you impressed to see so much altruism? (!)

All this happens while in Moldova young people are being held prisoners for trying to use Twitter against the Communist Party and Jim Mullen thinks that Twitter is a place where he can tell us about his showers.
