Fascinating and well-written read. An interesting take on the world's "size" - it seems in vogue to say its getting smaller due to globalization but I think I prefer your perspective about it getting bigger - every day there is tons more information. I mean, on this blog alone there are links going to things ranging from traveling in Europe, an Indian's personal blog, or my own on real estate in Utah. I'd say that's certainly a bigger internet - and a smaller world.

Hi,
What an interesting discussion, Theo. So good that it even attracted corporate spam. :) He he! What do you say? Should we include nextfeeds.com in the weekly startup review? They are asking for it…

Thanks for the interesting article Theo.

In an effort to take away the pain of information overload we will be launching Nextfeeds.com, a new web service for alert services and reminders , which will try to tackle information overload with some new ideas. Happy to hear your comments once its launched.

@Sueblimely
Thank you for your comment. What you say about that most peole are happy to stay within their own niches, 'finding the tribes' they need, ties in with Phil's comment about "people incapable to step outside the 'clan' or tribe mentality". So, in a way, most people are continueing their 'real world' lives in the virtual world we call Internet? As I said, I can understand that but I wonder what the reasons behind that behavior are. Is it because we are still tribalists, or because the all the information we're capable of receiving is too frightening? I don't mean to offend or judge anyone, I'm just wondering about it. History has shown several times what dangers lie in 'hiding within the group'; populism is one of these.

@ Alina
Your reasons for using Internet, has you have described, are apparently some sort of trend. Some research has shown that people are watching less tv, albeit slightly, and spend more time on the Internet. Same figures also show that subscriptions to newspapers for instance, are in decline (but not as much as predicted 10 years ago).
A survey done 3 years ago regarding what people are doing on the internet, has put 'study' on the #1 place of the list. So, what are we doing with all this studying? :)
Taking a break from the internet is healthy of course; luckily they have invented the off-switch! :) But getting 9000 emails is defintely 'overload' in my book!
