The expression “make money with AdSense” has become, since many years back, a cliché. Thousands of so-called gurus are ready to sell expensive (or less expensive) ebooks that supposedly will teach you how to increase your AdSense revenue over night. Apparently they’ve got a secret formula, but they are willing to share it with a few lucky fellows, and if you are not ready to “act now,” grab a “limited offer” and pay the price, you’ll definitely miss out a “once in a lifetime” opportunity.
Because we do not want to make a separate front from the general trend, we are going to reveal a few AdSense secrets that will “change your life!” The only difference is that we are not going to charge you for it. So let’s start with the best kept “make money with AdSense” secret: there are no secrets! Everything you want to know about making money with AdSense is already waiting for you online, free of charge; Google provides a lot of the information with its AdSense tour and TOS. Many webmasters and bloggers have included special AdSense “tips and tricks” on their pages to help beginners (and often quite experienced webmasters) make the best out of their websites. These webmasters will tell you what Google doesn’t tell you, and this is also the purpose of this article.
Let us first define “stuffed with Google ads” before continuing. If you have a page stuffed with Google ads you’ve probably noticed that your winnings are not so high reported to the number of clicks. Google recommends that you use all the three ad blocks allowed per page. But they do not tell you that less… is more. You see, advertisers bid on how much they want to pay per click (these advertisers are AdWords users) and obviously the highest bids are served first. This means that Google prioritizes the best-paid ads, because this is how Google generates its sky-scraping revenues. So you will win more if you display fewer ads by Google.
However, if you want to stick with the three-ad blocks strategy, it is good to know that Google will give priority to the first block of ads. We are talking here not about what humans see when they open a page, but about what the Google AdSense spider reads when it scans your site. This “spider” functions very much like normal search spiders; it reads HTML code from top to bottom and left to right. Automatically, the first ad block within the code is given priority. If you are an experienced web coder you already know that the first coded doesn’t mean the first displayed.
Now, if you are a web designer or you just like pretty things, you probably dislike ad blocks and go for image ads. Though banners are pretty, they don’t pay. Like it or not, text ads are generating far more revenue. So, if by any chance, you were using Google banner ads to harmonize the AdSense ads with the design of your website, it’s time to rethink your strategy.
Lastly, don’t expect to make spectacular AdSense wins if you have 30-40 unique visitors per day. Don’t even expect that when you have 100! Though, when you reach 1000… we speak another language. If you have 1000 unique impressions daily and you don’t make more than $10 per day… then you need to worry! But until that day comes, focus on generating revenue through other means and try to become a useful resource for your readers. There is no better advertising than positive word of mouth.

1I started using Google Ads a while ago. And I keep doing so as they just stay there and generate some revenue for me. If the revenue is not the purpose, it’s actually fun. Especially when you see agencies promoting Sighisoara as a tourist destination advertising on your site

3Lol. Yeah, that happens to me too on my blog about Romania.
@ Dio: at least in stops us from wondering why we don’t generate enough revenue with adsense.
