When the Romanian Parliament suspends the President you should stop, breathe and wonder.

This is one of the worst political moves in history and I have reasons to believe that some not so orthodox purposes are behind this course of events.

Mr. Basescu is a popular President. I know him personally, since he was mayor of Bucharest: he is open, straightforward and has a rough way of imposing his opinion. He’ll not protect your feelings. He’ll just say what he thinks. From a diplomatic point of view, this is not a happy trait. But if you are to listen to the voice of the people… What can I tell you?

I’ve made some negative comments at his address in the past. He has the tendency to talk without really thinking about what he says. For example he once told Bill Gates: “Piracy helped the young generation to discover computers. It set off the development of the IT industry in Romania.” I’m not even going to bother to comment on that statement again. You’ll find some of my personal opinions here.

But right now his PR pearls don’t matter. What matters is that a bunch of second hand politicians have decided that the man who tries to fight against corruption needs to be suspended. A Mircea Geoana, who will probably run for presidency in three months when the new elections will take place if this political game succeeds, decided that Basescu is no longer good enough for Romania. He even declared that President Basescu “is incapable of pushing the country forward.” Probably Mr. Geoana considers himself better and will prove his super powers once he is elected.

But don’t count your chickens before they hatch, Mr. Geoana! I am not going to vote for a man who has to stab a President in the back to grab the power. And when you run for presidency, prepare yourself to say: “Those grapes are probably sour anyway!”

You don’t deserve any comments from me, Mr. Tariceanu!

The Romanian parliament has screwed up Romania’s chances to benefit from the entrance in the EU. The decision of these degraded politicians caused political instability, brought shame upon our country once again!

I cry while I write these lines and I do not know if I am making any sense. I don’t care what wrongs Basescu has done, they are not worse than this particular incident.

Suspending the President, for no good reason, when even the Constitutional Court of Romania declares that the accusations have no solid ground… that’s the real harm.

Now people are gathered in Bucharest’s University Square to support Mr. Basescu.

Mr. Basescu, I cannot be there. But you have my full support. I am sorry for what happened to you today and I am sorry for what happened to Romania. It’s a shame and it hurts.
