Rome… rhymes with home, doesn’t it? Well, I am a Romanian. This means that I descend from Latin blood. The Romans ruled Dacia since 106 till 271 and influenced strongly the indigenous population in all social aspects: economic, politic, linguistic, cultural and spiritual. Actually the two nations (Dacians and Romans) have mixed so fast and so well that the Latin language remained the official language even after the Roman Empire retreated. Today Romanian is one of the major Latin based languages along with Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian.

I’m not going to go into details about our Latin origins or our belonging to the Latin family. Soy Latina! A salsa rhythm boils in my blood. I was the only one in my group cheering the Italian National at the World Cup’s semifinals (quite daring, if you want to know, considering that I was surrounded by Germans!) and I long for Rome. It’s a dream to go there. It’s been always my dream but somehow I never manage to find the time. Even this year, although I’ll have a free week, instead of booking a hotel in Rome, I booked one in Barcelona: Hotel HCC Covadonga. Well, Spain is home too! I hope all goes well and I don’t have to cancel my trip.

But my next holiday has Rome written all over it! I have an eye on Hotel Mediterraneo because a friend of mine stayed there and she told me that the view was stunning as the hotel is located on the Esquiline – the highest of Rome’s seven hills (Aventinus, Caelius, Capitolium, Esquiliae, Palatium, Quirinalis and Viminalis). Why not Rome this year? Hm… I don’t know. To be honest it’s because I’ve got this special offer for a trip to Spain. It was an impulse purchase. I don’t really plan my holidays. Mostly I go with the flow. Who knows… in this rhythm maybe Rome will remain forever a dream.

Sorry, Roberto. It looks like we cannot see each other this year either. Maybe you’ll come to Luxembourg though, considering that the town is this year European Capital of Culture.
