I cannot possibly end this year without giving you a (rather) funny piece of information.2007 might be the year when Yahoo and AOL merge, at least this is what Jessica Reif Cohen insinuated in a recent note titled “Is 2007 the year AOL and Yahoo are in play?”. She wrote there: Although not without its problems, we believe that an AOL-Yahoo combination is one of the more logical combinations in this arena. (Reuters)
Interesting point. I suppose this is an attempt to take on Google and I really wonder what comes next?
I presume Microsoft does not sleep either. Can you imagine a world where Microsoft swallows Yahoo and AOL? I can see some Google territory shaking. I am not talking solely search here. I am talking corporations. As the scene of the SE looks now, Google rules. MSN is falling; Yahoo is the same old story and probably worse and AOL… who is using AOL? (Yeah, I know… some users!)
I don’t know if I am right or wrong. I am not a market analyst and certainly not a prophet. But Google has already proved my right by introducing LSI. And I am predicting that they’ll do even more in the future, to ensure quality on the Web. (Let’s say find an algorithm to determine whether a website is section 508 compliant or not and provide special search results for people with disabilities).
So I end this year now wondering: will the big fish (Microsoft) eat Yahoo and AOL? Hey fishy-fishy! Here fishy-fishy!
Happy New Year! See you all in 2007!
