I don’t know about you, but I never use my mobile to go online. First of all because that’s way too expensive for my personal taste and second because most of the websites are not mobile friendly.
Yeah… You’ve got that right! Mobile friendly!
This makes me believe that the next SEO trend – and probably a current trend – is mobile SEO. Would you like to see how your website looks on a mobile search? Then go to: http://www.google.com/xhtml type in your URL and have some fun! Why fun? Because if your website is not formatted for cell phone users what you see on the screen of your PC will look a lot like a vegetables soup!
To optimize your website for mobile phones and mobile search engines you should:
- Be W3C compliant and created in WML or XHTML Mobile.
- Keep the graphics to a minimum. (Better no graphics at all, but then… what happens to your branding standards?)
- Place all the important information at the top.
- Keep the content short and relevant. This includes: short titles, short lists, short sentences and short paragraphs.
Mobile search is not very popular. Not just yet. But many business people go online with their PDAa when traveling and teenagers look for their favorite stars online the same way. The mobile phone is already used to download MP3 files, listen to the radio, send pictures and videos and so on. It’s just a matter of time, but mobiles will be used more and more in the future to browse the Web.
Isn’t this something to think about?
It will be very interesting to see where this trend will take us in the next couple of years, especially with all the new computer style phones.
